When a litigation file presents a new, unusual or complex legal challenge, Makena roles up her sleeves and digs deep to find the answer that can turn a matter in a client’s favour. She works closely with the firm’s litigators and plays a key role contributing to the effective defence of MVA and slip & fall insurance claims, as well as construction and estate litigation disputes.

A dedicated life-long learner, Makena thrives on uncovering the case law and precedents that support the unique facts of each new matter. Her thorough and effective research skills are matched by her persuasive drafting and editing skills that can influence the outcome of a dispute and resolve it in a timely and effective manner.

Prior to her call to the Bar of Ontario, Makena articled with Kelly Santini and was a summer student for three years. Her law degree included a year studying in Scotland where she also worked as a paralegal. When she is not tackling a difficult legal issue, she can usually be found enjoying the great outdoors, hiking with her dog, skiing or skating on the canal.
